Old Laundry Site Sep 2013 -50.jpg

St Valentine’s Close

Gordon Road, Winchester

The redevelopment of the former laundry in central Winchester regenerates a redundant industrial site in a residential neighbourhood. The scheme provides fourteen houses, all with private gardens and car parking, ranging from two to four bedrooms plus a three storey office building on this prominent corner location. The public realm and context were the subject of rigorous design review between T2 architects and Winchester City Council’s Urban Design & Major Projects officer. The overall appearance is a modestly contemporary design which respects the character of the surrounding properties and the nearby conservation area. A balance of traditional and modern materials helps to ensure that the buildings read as being ‘of their time’, and furthermore they have been designed to suit the needs of today’s lifestyles and to anticipate those of the future. The project was shortlisted for a Solent Design Award in 2014, shortlisted for a Housing Design Award in 2015, highly commended in the Civic Voice Awards in 2016 and winner of the City of Winchester Trust Design Awards in 2015.
